The 1st Uppsala Conference was hosted by ECD co-inventor Roman Zubarev and held aboard a ferry traveling between Stockholm, Sweden and Helsinki, Finland in 2003. Patrick Langridge-Smith of the University of Edinburgh organized and held the 2nd Uppsala Conference (2004) at The Marine Hotel, North Berwick, Scotland. Both meetings were small (~ 50 – 60) and held in secluded locations which had a positive affect on interactions of the attendees. Lecturers at these two early meetings included:

Southern Denmark), Chris Hendrickson (National Magnet laboratory, FSU), Takashi Baba (Hitachi), Peter O’Connor (Boston University), Kristina Hakansson (University of Michigan), Robert Hudgins (York University), David Goodlett (University of Washington), Einar Uggerud (University of Oslo), Fred McLafferty (Cornell), and Frantisek Turecek (University of Washington). Topics at these meetings ranged from the fundamental physics of electron capture to applications in proteomics and glycomics.
The 3rd Uppsala Conference was organized by David Goodlett
(University of Washington) and was held in Seattle. Speakers at the 2005 Uppsala Conference were Don Hunt (University of Virginia), Frank Turecek (University of Washington), Roman Zubarev (Uppsala University), Catherine Costello (Boston University), J. Peter-Katalinic, and Fred McLafferty (Cornell University), among others. The meeting went to Asia – Hong Kong – in 2006. Dominic Chan of Hong Kong University organized 4th Uppsala Conference with the following lineup of speakers: Jonathan Amster (U. Georgia), Jack Beauchamp (CalTech), Alma Burlingame (U. California-SF), Joshua Coon (U. Wisconsin), Kristina Håkansson (U. Michigan), Ron Hereen (FOM), Julia Laskin (PNNL), Ding Li, Evgenij Nikolaev, Peter B. O'Connor (Boston University), Richard O'Hair, Han Bin Oh, Michael Siu, Steve Sweet, Yury Tsybin, Frantisěk Turěcek (U. Washington), Shigeo Hayakawa, Roman A. Zubarev (Uppsala University).
Last year’s 5th Uppsala Conference was held in Paris, France and
